I have just recently thrown together a cake for my 7 year old neice. Her birthday was June 30th. Due to conflicting activities in her family, she hasn't gotten even so much as a cupcake for her bday. So she stayed with us on Friday night while her parents went to Wisconsin. I didn't have time to start anything for her until Thursday night at like 1230am (so technically Friday morning). She likes Chocolate so I made her my chocolate cake and layered it with 2 layers, with buttercream frosting in between. Then buttercream on the outside and covered in MMF. She likes pink and yellow so I thought the pink, yellow and orange daisies would be really cute to add to it. Since it was just her and our 2 girls and us, I didn't make anything huge but enough that she could celebrate with us. Here it is!! Hope you enjoy looking!

My most recent Cake Adventure!

So I'm still learning but I'm getting more and more comfortable with my work. I had a little trouble with my fondant this time but I think I know where I went wrong. This cake is a white layered cake. There really weren't any specifics the mom wanted. She just wanted it to have purple and zebra print. I was going to put the 7 up on the top but it started cracking some so I didn't want it to fall before the party tonight. I would have a very upset 7 year old at her party tonight. I was asked to do this by my 7 year old neice for her friend because she loves the cakes I've been doing so far. Here it is!!

My Very First MMF Practice Cake

Its a practice cake so I could just practice making MMF and also putting it on a cake. The corners are totally screwed up down the crease at the corner, some cracking because I thought I could be like the cake people on TV and just fold my fondant up, put it on the cake, and unroll it like its supposed to be, NOPE. My bow is off but I don't think my MMF loops were hard enough, I was getting anxious and my kids kept trying to mess with them. Plus I ran out of white fondant while doing it, so I know next time I need more white fondant than I made this time. So this is just a rough draft and not needing to look 100% at the moment. Here ya go.. Its not perfect but I've learned A LOT while making it so thats at least a plus.

I have a little white tag out of MMF that I'm going to write "Welcome Baby Lucas" on but didn't have it dried or the icing mixed up to put on. Anyway, there we go.
Anyway, heres just the first step in my wild ride of Cake Adventures!! :) Thanks for looking!

Cake Decorating Kit Giveaway!!!

I stumbled across a Cake Decorating Kit giveaway while browsing the Cake Decorating forum on Cafemom. This kit looks like a ton of fun! Since I'm just getting started in Cake Decorating, this would be a HUGE bonus to my collection. Like I said, I'm a beginner. I'm only made a few cakes so far nothing with Fondant or Gum Paste but I'd like to venture that way. I really want to get into this big because I know there would be a lot of people close to me that would like custom ordered cakes. Anyway, check it out, its pretty neat!! http://bit.ly/bH65ZF
